Annavaram Sri SatyanarayanaSwamy Temple
Annavaram is the second most famous holy temple after Tirupati in Andhra state. The temple is dedicated to Lord SatyanarayanaSwamy with his consort Sri Anantha Lakshmi on one side and with Lord Shiva on the otherside hence this is the temple that is attracting the pilgrims of both Vaishnava and Shiva devotees. The temple was built in the Dravidian style and the temple is located on the Ratnagiri hill, the hill is about 300 feet above the sea level. Sri SatyanarayanaSwamy at this place is also followed by a Pampa river. Here the devotees will believe that their wishes will be fulfilled when SatyanarayaSwamyVratam is performed here.
History of AnnavaramSatyanarayanaSwamy temple
The temple was said to be constructed in the year 1891 by Raja Ramanarayanawho is the Zamindar of Gorasa of Kirlampudi estate. It is said that one poor Brahmin of the village by name EarankiPrakasam got a dream in which lord appeared and told him that his idol was left on the hill without any prayers and they shall trace it and reconsecrate it, the Brahmin then told the whole story to Sri Raja Ramanarayanam. Then both of them traced the idol on the hill and worshipped it and installed it on the present spot. The temple is reconstructed during 1933-34 and again in 2011-2012. The temple was constructed in the form of a chariot with four wheels.
The idol is in the form of cylindrical shape and 13 feet high, the lower sanctum represents Lord Brahma, the middle portion represents Lord Shiva and the upper portion represents the Lord Vishnu. The idol of the Lord Shiva Lingam representshere the Trimurthis which is a unique attraction.
It is located at a distance of 2km from the Annavaram railway station. The Pampa River is located at the bottom of the Ratnagiri hill. A barrage was built across the River at the bottom of the hill, providing boating facility. It is also called as Pampa Sarovara.
The temple is at a distance of 15km from Annavaram. The temple is wedged between two forest hillocks. The temple is famous in AP and the devotees used to visit the temple for offering pooja to the goddess after purchasing the vehicles, here devotees will offer animals to the goddess and they believe that goddess ThalupulammaThalli will protect them from road accidents and dangers. Traditionally it was believed that sage Agastya settled down here and done his prayers. It is also believed that the sage used to eat the fruits and drink water from these mountains. He only named the mountains as Darakonda and Teegakonda.
The beach is at a distance of 37km from Annavaram and 10km from Kakinada. The beach is located on the Uppada road and wide shore is the main attraction. The sunrise and sunset are very interesting to watch at this beach. A beautiful park is also located near the beach.
KukkuteswaraSwamy temple is an ancient temple and it is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It was believed that sage Vyasa, Pandavas, and Kunti visited this holy temple in Dwapara Yuga, Rama visited during Tretayuga and Trimurthis visited during Kruthayuga. It is one of the Shakti peetham among all the Aastadasapeethas. Since seat place of goddess Satidevi has fallen on this place so it is called Pithapuram. Here Lord Shiva will be in the form of Cock.
Samarlakota is at a distance of 40km from Annavaram. KumararamaBhimeswara Temple Samarlakota is dedicated to Lord Shiva and the temple is one of the PancharamaKshetras in Andhra state. The temple was built by eastern Chalukyan king Bhima during 9th and 10th centuries. It was believed that Lord Kumara Swamy had installed the Shiva Linga here after defeating the demon king Tarakasura who theft theAmrutha Shiva Linga while doing Ksheerasagaramathanam. Then Kumara Swamy who was the commander in chief for gods fought with Tarakasura wearing this linga around his neck. Kumaraswamy while fighting with Demon king he repeatedly broke Tarakasura body into pieces but the pieces again reunified. Then Kumaraswamy took advice from Lord Vishnu, he was advised to break the Shiva lingainto pieces even after breaking the pieces will try to reunite, inorder to prevent this all these broken pieces should be fixed at the place where they fell, only then Tarakasura can be killed.
