World’s smallest surgical robot was created by the scientists in the UK. The newly created robot was called Versius and imitates like a human arm. This robot is made up of the technology which is used in the mobile phones and seems to be less costly.
Around 100 scientists and engineers developed the first robotic arm especially designed to do the keyhole surgery. This robot includes a large number of laparoscopic processes which also include hernia repairs, colorectal operations, prostate, ear and nose and throat surgery.
Surgical robots are already existed but the newly created robot is much easier to use and uses the space of about a third of the space of the current machines which is very low- cost than that of non-robotic keyhole surgery. The robot is operated by the surgeon at a console guided by a screen of 3D in the operating theatre. According to the chief executive, Martin Frost” robots in the operating theatre are not a new idea but the main problem is that they are expensive and the procedure costs an extra using a robot that to they are very large. Many of the hospitals need to use the robot in the operating theatre but their size can make them difficult to use. So they are used in very fewer situations and they are designed only for the pelvic surgery and can’t be adapted to the other surgery. For the revolutionize surgery by the robots they seem to be flexible, easy to move around the theatres and easy to pack them away when they are not used. But our newly created robot will do all of this and seems to be the first robotic arm especially designed for the laparoscopic surgery” Frost said. This robot is mainly used for the detection of resistance to make sure that the correct amount of force is used when the instruments are inside the patients.
The device Versius was created with the electronics used in the mobile phone in order to “think” and process the information and the gear box technology normally designed for the space industry to move it. Another important thing with the device is the robot doesn’t exhaust like a surgeon can. The robot will be launched in the next coming spring and when the surgeons are trained it will be available for the procedures on the patients by the end of the year.
